Beating the crowded city heat, my partner Monch Henares and I usually drive up to Tagaytay to take in the fresh air and enjoy the cooler climate. The two-hour road trip to the famous ridge overlooking the beautiful Taal lake and volcano is something we look forward to, specially when we drive a comfortable vehicle.

Our car for the week is the 2023 Suzuki Ertiga GLX AT, a mild-hybrid looker. What is a “mild-hybrid’? It was perfect timing when seasoned publicist Pete Dacuycuy invited us for a food-tasting event at Anila Poolside, located inside the sprawling Anya Resort in Buena Vista, Tagaytay City. Together with our colleague Benjie Layug and a handful of select media practitioners, we experienced world-class dining prepared by Executive Chef Chris A. Leaning and Sous-Chef Robee Javier.
Amidst the greenery and inviting ambiance, you will find Anila beside a gorgeous swimming pool that is so tempting for water people like me. We were welcomed by Mr. Mikel Arriet, General Manager of Anya Resort Tagaytay. A former Executive Chef himself, Mikal, who hails from Basque dined with us, and introduced a fusion of Spanish and Filipino cuisines that tickled our taste buds.

Sous-Chef Robee Javier personally showcased a menu that was just perfect for the season. Practicing the farm-to-table philosophy, and using organic ingredients, all the dishes were flavorful and delicious.
The spread successfully renewed our appreciation with old favorites like the paella, cochinillo, and all-time Tagaytay staple, the famous bulalo.
